Franz has been working in the Brussels arena since 1999 and has an extensive network across the EU institutions, as well as with civil society and International Organisations. He came to Brussels to work for the BMW Group and then started working for two German MEPs in the European Parliament on areas ranging from budgetary control to social affairs and transport policy, environment, food and food safety.
From 2008 until end of 2016, Franz then worked for Kraft Foods and Mondelez International on environment, food and food safety policy. He helped implement major food legislation (e.g. on nutrition and health claims; on-pack labelling) and covered a wide range of issues from biotechnology, nutrient profiles, sustainable sourcing of raw materials to selective food taxes, or responsible marketing strategies; he also has an extensive knowledge of international trade and agricultural policy. His time at Mondelez also saw him work closely with a range of relevant trade associations: he chaired the FoodDrinkEurope Competitiveness Committee, and represented the company in the executive boards of the European confectionary association Caobisco.
